I’m proud and excited to offer on consignment this highly original and beautifully preserved 1988 BMW E30 M3 Coupe for the family of it’s only owner.

History:

The vehicle was produced at the BMW Factory in Munich-Milbertshofe, Germany on 11/23/87 and then shipped to the USA.  According to the Original Purchase Order, it was supplied new by Dave Walter BMW, Akron, Ohio on 03/12/1988 with an MSRP of $34,880 to a prominent Northern Ohio Mechanical Engineer. The owner was very meticulous and kept all the documentation associated with the vehicle from delivery forward, including a detailed log of every fuel purchase made. As the years passed and his consultancy business commitments required increased travel, the BMW saw less use. In June 2002 the car was stored and covered at the owner’s property in a newly constructed building with a concrete floor. There it stayed until February of this year, when the family decided to have the vehicle comprehensively recommissioned in preparation for sale.

Maintenance/Recommissioning:

The original service booklet has several stamps from the car’s early life completed by the selling dealer. There are also multiple BMW Parts Invoices showing the purchase of oil filters and seals, indicating that the owner completed some of the cars minor maintenance, including regular oil changes. Based on his area of expertise in Mechanical Engineering this would have been well within his abilities.

On emerging from storage in February 2020 the vehicle was delivered to Chris Moore the principal of Autobahn Extremist a German Car Specialist in Avon Lake, Ohio. Chris embarked on a thorough servicing, replacing, cleaning and detailing of the vehicle to return it to prime condition after it’s long slumber. Maintaining the car’s originality was always the prime directive . The final invoice was $8,240.69 and is available to serious parties for inspection.

Condition:

As the car presents now it’s hard to over emphasize how well it offers the perfect combination of originality with just the right amount of 32 years of minor patina, it just feels and looks right in every respect. Very importantly all of the paint meters as original at between 3-5 mil and all of the correct “panel vin tags” are present (see the pictures in the gallery).

I’ve been fortunate to have experienced and driven many BMW E30 M3’s over the years and this car is right at the top of the list as far as I’m concerned; time capsule originality, deep provenance and just the right amount of miles that you shouldn’t be worried about adding a few more by immersing yourself in the intoxicating experience that driving this Bavarian Icon provides!

The car remains completely stock as delivered except for the addition of a Supersprint Exhaust System installed in 1996 at the cost of $920 (invoice included). It’s designed to wake the car up a little from the stock system and is period correct. I think it sounds great and is not too loud in my opinion. The stock exhaust system as pictured in the gallery is included in the sale.

Custom ordered from Mathews Ford in Oregon, OH, the vehicle arrived on October 8th, 2011. Since taking delivery the original enthusiast owner has approached the care and maintenance of the vehicle in a fastidious manner, with extensive supporting documentation. Stored during the winter and consistently serviced by the original dealer & a local specialist the car has lived a privileged life. The link to the Carfax report below shows no damage or accidents. The track key was activated by the selling dealer early in the cars life in addition to the installation of the factory brake duct kit and transmission oil cooler. The racing front air splitter has not been installed and is included in the sale in it’s original box. The majority of the 24k miles were accumulated during the summer driving for pleasure.
